Maca root extract lets supplement and beverage makers use a smaller amount per serving than maca powder. This guide explains what the ratios mean, how our extracts are made, how the 10:1 and the 20:1 compare, and what to ask any extract supplier.

What 10:1 and 20:1 mean

The ratio is fresh maca root to finished extract: 10 kg of fresh root for each kilo of the 10:1 extract, and 20 kg for the 20:1.

How our maca root extract is made

The root is extracted with a mix of 70% ethyl alcohol and 30% purified water. The extract is concentrated and carried on maltodextrin. The 20:1 is spray-dried (atomized): the liquid is sprayed into fine droplets and dried with hot air. At least 95% of both powders passes through 80 mesh.

Which one for which product

The 10:1 is the usual choice for capsules, tablets, sachets and powder blends. The 20:1 is used for ready-to-drink beverages, stick packs, effervescent tablets and instant drink powders, where a smaller amount per serving matters.

Macamides and other markers

Our specification sets the ratio, not a macamide content. If your specification requires marker compounds, tell us when you request a quote.

What to ask any maca extract supplier

  • How the ratio is calculated: from fresh or from dried root.
  • Which solvent is used and whether residual solvent is tested.
  • Which carrier is used and what share of the powder it is.
  • A certificate of analysis for each lot, with heavy metals and microbiology.
  • Whether the extract is organic. Ours is not sold as organic.
  • A sample drawn from a production lot.

Minimum order, samples and prices

The minimum order is 50 kg, in 5 kg bags. Qualified buyers receive a free sample with its certificate of analysis. Request current prices for the 10:1 and the 20:1.
