This guide is for US and Canadian companies that buy maca powder or maca root extract in bulk: supplement brands, food and beverage manufacturers and ingredient distributors. It covers what to choose, which documents your customs broker and your QA team will ask for, how an order moves from Peru to your port, and what to check in any maca supplier, including us.

Our maca grows on the Junín plateau in the Peruvian Andes, at about 4,200 m. The powders are certified organic for the US (USDA), the EU and Canada; the extracts are not sold as organic. Documents for importing maca into the United States
- FDA food facility registration. Facilities that produce food for the US market must be registered with the FDA and renew the registration every even-numbered year, between 1 October and 31 December. Ask any supplier, including us, to confirm the registration of the facility that produces the maca.
- Prior notice. Your customs broker files it with the FDA before the goods arrive. We send the shipment details they need together with the shipping documents.
- Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). As the importer, you have to verify that your foreign supplier meets US food safety requirements. Ask us for the documents your FSVP file needs.
- Organic shipments. Since 19 March 2024, every organic shipment entering the US needs an NOP Import Certificate, issued by the exporter's certifier in the USDA Organic Integrity Database.
- With every lot we send the certificate of analysis, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate when required, commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading.
- Dietary supplements. If the maca goes into a supplement, your plant has to confirm the identity of each dietary ingredient (21 CFR Part 111). Tell us which identity method your QA team uses when you request a sample.
Importing into Canada
Most food importers in Canada need a Safe Food for Canadians licence from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Our maca powders are also certified under the Canada Organic Regime.
